Scripture

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Observation

This prophecy was written about Jesus birth 700 years before it took place. Isaiah was speaking of the Messiah, the Savior and Redeemer of the world that would come to forgive sins and give new life to those who believe. It is interesting how this Messiah would be described. The first 2 words are “Wonderful Counselor”. This is surprising to me! Of all the descriptions of who Jesus would be, the first is “Wonderful Counselor”. Why?

The world is devoid of reason, wisdom, truth, discernment and insight in many ways. There is a great need for a “Wonderful Counselor”. Life is filled with hurt from all types of abuse, pain, trauma, and addiction. The world needs a “Wonderful Counselor”. Relationships are so broken and wisdom is so desperately needed how to mend and heal the heart from the hurt of others. A “Wonderful Counselor” can bring real and deep and lasting healing to the heart.

Application

I can see why Jesus was called first a “Wonderful Counselor” when I look at all of the needs in my life, my family, and my world for Wonderful Counsel. Just yesterday I needed Divine counsel on how to deal with a very hurtful and painful relational breakdown between some individuals. There He was again, the “Wonderful Counselor” gave wisdom and insight into the whole situation and brought life, forgiveness, healing, understanding, and restoration to everyone involved. Once again, He was the “Wonderful Counselor” that we needed!
