They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-47
Family Communities are our way of learning to live out our Christian faith and life in our everyday lives. The FC’s are people who gather together in homes to devote themselves to what the disciples devoted themselves to: the Bible, fellowship, eating together and prayer. We believe that the Christian life was not designed by God to live outside of close knit loving relationships. Jesus’ example with His disciples, and His disciples example to us lays out very clearly what our Christian life and practice should look like.
The book of Acts is our model of how to foster Spirit-filled authentic and attractive Christians in their homes and in their world. The powerful secret to the early church was their gatherings in each other’s homes where they experienced the Presence of the Holy Spirit being poured out in them. From these gatherings they went out full of power to share this Good News, see signs and wonders, and to change their world.
